Don’t Write for AI. Write So AI Wants to Recommend You

Over the past few weeks I’ve been studying a number of AI products.

  • Some promise to build websites.
  • Others promise to create articles.
  • Others promise AI agents that can build businesses while you sleep.
  • The technology is impressive.

But something finally clicked for me.

I don’t think the goal is to make AI sound more human.

I think the goal is to make AI sound more like you.

That’s a completely different objective.

The Early Days of AI

When ChatGPT first appeared, everyone was amazed that AI could write.

The question was simple:

“Can AI create an article?”

The answer was yes.

Then millions of AI-generated articles flooded the Internet.

  • Many were factually correct.
  • Many were readable.
  • Many also sounded strangely similar.

The problem wasn’t that AI was writing.

The problem was that nobody was adding themselves to the conversation.

What Really Builds Trust

People don’t build relationships with perfect paragraphs.

They build relationships with people.

When I write today, I rarely start with a blank page.

I work with AI.  But then I add my own experiences.

  • Living in an RV.
  • Selling our Virginia home.
  • House hunting around Omaha.
  • Building websites.
  • Email marketing.
  • Helping another RVer who appeared to have forgotten to close his fresh water drain.

Those stories aren’t generated.

They’re lived by me.

AI helps me organize them.

AI Should Learn You

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that your AI becomes more valuable the more it understands you.

  • Your philosophy.
  • Your values.
  • Your business model.
  • Your audience.
  • Your teaching style.

Instead of asking AI to sound human, teach it to sound like you.

That changes everything.

AI Doesn’t Replace Relationships

The marketers who will thrive over the next decade won’t simply publish more AI content.

They’ll use AI to create better conversations.

  • Better education.
  • Better follow-up.
  • Better relationships.

Technology changes.

Relationships don’t.

Lessons Learned

  • AI is an incredible assistant.
  • But your experiences, your judgment, and your voice are still your greatest business assets.
  • Teach AI those things, and it becomes far more than a writing tool.
  • It becomes a partner that helps amplify who you already are.
